he Employment Practice
Group is co-managed by Mark B. Weinberg and Ronald D. Jacobs. Employment law encompasses a wide
range of issues and concerns in the workplace. Terms and conditions of
employment frequently give rise to disputes. These problems can be
lessened through carefully drafted handbooks and contracts. Policies and
procedures thought out in advance can minimize the potential for
expensive and time-consuming conflict between the employer and employee.
For these reasons, the firm emphasizes the importance of counseling
employers on employment practices, including compliance with the myriad
of federal and state laws such as the Family and Medical Leave Act,
Human Rights Act, and wage-hour laws. The firm also assists clients in
developing and regularly reviewing customized employment manuals to govern
their workplaces.

Complex employment agreements often affect other areas of law. Because
the firm has a diversified practice in tax, partnership and corporate
affairs, it can offer employment advice in this larger business context.
Its ability to call upon partners with other expertise enables the firm
to provide sound legal advice to its corporate clients from inception
through termination of employment relationships.

Inevitably, some employment issues lead to litigation. In this, too, the
firm's experience can serve its clients well. For each stage of an
employment matter -- whether by effective drafting, preventive
counseling, or handling claims from investigation through settlement or
trial -- the firm's combined expertise enables its clients to resolve
difficult issues wisely and prudently.
